There's no doubt about it - the Ice Bucket Challenge has swept the nation.
The movement was created to raise awareness and money for ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
As of Sunday, Aug. 17., the ALS Association has received $13.3 million in donations compared to $1.7 million during the same period last year. The non-profit credits this unprecedented giving to the Ice Bucket Challenge.
Over the past several days, WBIR's anchors and reporters, including Robin Wilhoit, John Becker, Russell Biven, Beth Haynes, and Todd Howell, dumped ice water over their heads and nominated other local celebrities to do the same.
Many have already responded to the challenge: Phillip Fulmer, UT President Dr. Joe DiPietro, Dirty Guv'nahs, James Berrong, gold medalist Davis Tarwater, and Butch Jones.
