Local woman celebrates 104th birthday

Margaret Martin, a resident at NHC of Oak Ridge celebrates her 104th birthday

(WBIR) An East Tennessee woman reached a milestone few have experienced.

Margaret Coulson Martin, or Aunt M, turned 104 years old Wednesday. She said her life has been ordinary but blessed.

"Maybe an ordinary, really good life is not ordinary for people," said Martin. "Maybe it's extraordinary because it has been a very wonderful experience for me, and I am very grateful to God for it."

Her nephew, Norm Naylor, and his wife, Ann, celebrated with the birthday girl Wednesday afternoon at NHC of Oak Ridge where she now lives.

Aunt M now was born on July 23, 1910 in Stillwater, N.Y. Her family moved to Massachusetts when she was a baby. She met her husband, Maynard, in 1933, and they married in 1935. Margaret worked in the auto industry in Detroit for many years before the couple retired in Arizona. Maynard died in 1984. Margaret eventually followed the family to Knoxville in 1999.
