New statue In Harriman honors Vietnam vets

A new addition to David Webb Riverfront Park was unveiled on Memorial Day.

The life-size sculpture depicts three service men in Vietnam, and is loosely based on a similar monument in Washington, D.C., near the Vietnam Memorial Wall.

Sculptor Greg Horak took 12 months to get the piece ready for today's ceremony.

He said he was honored to work on such an important tribute.

"Doing a piece of sculpture, even if you worked on it for a year, is a pretty small comparison to the sacrifice they've given so I feel this is a privilege to work on a project like this. The meaning that it has for other people, seeing the gravity it has and seeing the importance it has to them means more to me than anything else I've ever done."

There are hopes to commission more monuments to honor more recent conflicts.
