Friday the 13th was anything but unlucky for Heritage High School in Blount County.

"This is a great day for Heritage," said principal Patricia Mandago.

Heritage is the first of ten schools in the entire nation to win U.S. Cellular's "Calling all Communities" giveaway.

They were handed a check for $100,000 dollars during a surprise assembly.

The company is giving away a total of $1 million to schools that rally their communities for votes. The Blount community certainly did its part.

"It's incredible how the community came together for a common cause," said Sherri Walker, the teacher who encouraged the school to go for it.

Nine more schools will be named soon, perhaps including more from East Tennessee.

Heritage is not sure yet how they will use the money.
