Questions

They said on the news that some people are wanting to replace Ulysses S. Grant's picture with Ronald Reagan's on the $50 bill. What do you think?
Richard, Tellico VIllage
I've never been a fan of change. Now RR was a fine President. My second favorite, in fact. But Grant did a whole lot for this country too. That's why his picture was put on the bill in the first place. Nothing that The Gipper did in any way diminishes what Grant did so I don't see the wisdom of demoting Grant. Reagan has an airport, federal building, aircraft carrier and freeway named for him, so there's no shortage of honors to his memory. For Grant, there's Grant Park and Grant's Tomb but they pretty much HAD to name the latter after him. Nope, I say we keep Mr. Grant on the fifty.
Oscars aside, what do you think was the Best Picture of the Year?
Deb, Knoxville
When it comes to picking the Best Picture of the Year, I'm operating at somewhat of a disdadvantage in that I haven't seen any of the nominees. But I've seen some of the coverage in the news and I'm amused. Seems that many of the leading contenders are under fire from one special interest group or another. "Precious" has been called racist. So has "The Blind Side". "An Education" is accused of being anti-semitic. "Avatar" has been branded by some as un-American. It's also getting knocked by health activists because one of the film's stars is seen smoking a cigarette. They say it's a bad example for kids. Funny because parents have been told for years that sex and violence on the screen don't lead to sex and violence among kids. Apparently smoking does.
