No matter how busy Tammie Moyers gets, she has to check her blood suger seven or eight times a day. She has Type 1 diabetes, also known as Juvenile Diabetes.
Despite its name, the disease can also be diagnosed in adults like Tammy, who was 31 when she found out she had diabetes.
For several years Tammie gave herself insulin shots.
In 2005, her doctor suggested she switch to an insulin pump. The pump delivers insulin 24 hours a day.
That around-the-clock dosing makes it easier for Tammie to control her blood sugar.
Despite the challenges diabetes presents, it has become a routine part of her family life. Tammie's two sons are attentive to their mom's health, and her husband went through training with her when Tammie switched to the insulin pump.
