Service and Sacrifice

10News launched the Service & Sacrifice series in 2008. WBIR anchor John Becker reports weekly on the lives and life challenges of East Tennessee veterans and their families.

The inspiration for the series was threefold. John’s grandfather served in World War II, John embedded with soldiers in the Iraq War in 2004 and the instillation of the East Tennessee Veterans Memorial in 2008 proved a catalyst for the series.

In addition to profiles of individual veterans the series has also explored issues like: heath care benefits, homelessness, diversity, family separation, reunions, and combat stress.

We welcome your feedback. You can email John Becker directly at: jbecker@wbir.com
