Smokies Strong: One year after the devastating wildfires

On Tuesday, November 28, 2017, we wanted to reflect on the growth, perseverance and strength the Sevier County and Gatlinburg communities have taken since the deadly wildfires last year.

On Nov. 28, 2017, the city of Gatlinburg and Smokies Strong community took time to remember, recognize and honor those who died in the wildfires last year, the first responders who rushed in to help and give thanks for the community's recovery.

One year ago, 14 people died when the fires swept through the region.

On Tuesday, the Smokies Strong community showed their support as the city of Gatlinburg unveiled their plans for a permanent wildfire memorial in the northern part of the city.

A year after the fires, businesses are booming and rebuilding. Families are reconstructing their homes.

These stories of perseverance and determination are moving this community forward.
