Tee Martin only interested in head coach position at Tennessee

Tee Martin was the quarterback for the Vols' 1998 undefeated season and national championship.

When Tennessee was in the midst of its marathon coaching search that ended with the hire of Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, many Vol fans were hoping former UT quarterback Tee Martin would get the job.

That didn't work out, but Martin, who is the offensive coordinator at the University of Southern California, has confirmed that he talked to Tennessee about the position.

"If I was going to go back to Tennessee, it would be as head coach not as coordinator," he said in an interview with Scott Schrader of TrojanInsider.com "I made that very clear and when I was out of that discussion they moved on to do what they had to do."

There was some discussion that Martin may have hired on as an assistant or associate head coach to the Vols' eventual hire, but he obviously was not interested in that kind of opportunity.
