An East Knox County woman has a few more weeks to try to save her home.
78-year-old Mary Cate Jones had been told she would be evicted at eight o'clock Wednesday morning after her home went into foreclosure, but a last minute change will give her four more weeks to fix the situation.
Jones says she took out a loan against the home several years ago and was making her payments, but got confused when the loan was sold to different companies over the years.
She says she didn't realize she was in danger of losing her home.
Jones admits she probably didn't know everything she should have about the loan before she signed it. Now she's just focused on staying in the home she's lived in for decades.
"I just feel like I've been torn apart. You know, after living 55-56 years in the house that my dad helped us build when he was living. And we lived there, but my husband died in 2000," she said.
Jones' children say they aren't sure where the ball got dropped, but they are working to figure out the mess.
Jones is getting advice now from people who are knowledgeable about dealing with these types of situations and are able to help guide her.
She says she and her children believe she may have a touch of dementia.
