McIntyre expects "tight budget" for school district next year

Knox County Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre will soon present his next school budget, but this year, the district faces an additional challenge in a funding gap.

In a memorandum to the Board of Education, McIntyre said FY15 budget will be"tight," explaining a $9 million dollar difference between the district's initial expectations for expenses (about $19.5 million) compared to expected revenues (about $10.5 million).

According to McIntyre, the expenses come from projects and investments to which the district has already committed.

The superintendent said there is time before the official budget proposal on March 31st, during which he plans to build a strategy to "reallocate, reduce, or defer potential spending." The district also expects to learn a BEP funding projection from the state in April.
