A little girl was killed in an accident that happened while her dad was driving her to school.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says the accident was reported just before 8 am Friday morning, on Mecca Pike, about 5 miles from Rural Vale Elementary School in Tellico Plains.
Investigators believe the girls father, Jason Freeman, swerved to avoid a vehicle that had stopped to turn left. He swerved into the other lane of traffic, and his vehicle was hit by a car driven by a 16 year old girl.
The 7 year old girl, Lynsey, was killed in the accident. Her father and 5 year old brother, Gabriel, were flown to UT Medical Center by Lifestar. They are both in stable condition.
The 16 year old was taken to Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah and was treated and released.
The principal of Rural Vale School called Lynsey a sweet and loving student.
"She just broke her arm a few weeks ago. She would tell me about that. She still wanted to do everything with a broke arm," said principal Stanley Shadden.
Investigators are looking for the driver of the vehicle that had stopped to make a turn when the accident happened. They do not believe that driver was responsible for the accident, they would just like to get more details about what happened.
THP said charges are pending. Troopers said that both kids were not locked in the required booster seat. They also said that Lynsey's dad, Jason Freeman, is unlicensed in the state of Tennessee.
A fund has been set up to help the family with medical expenses for Lynsey's dad and brother. Those interested in donating to the fund can send money to any FSG Bank, c/o The Lynsey Freeman Memorial Fund.
