For many East Tennesseans, high school football is the highlight of the weekend.
Powell fans have extra to cheer about this season. The Panthers are undefeated for the first time since 1990.
However, the best highlight during Powell home games doesn't happen on the field. "It's the best thing I've ever done in my career," says Tami Smith, a special education teacher at Powell.
The cheerleading team, along with the special needs department, have adopted the "Sparkle Effect."
In the third quarter of Powell home games, several special needs girls, who know all the cheers, join the full squad to perform for one quarter.
"The first time we did it, I almost cried," says Charlotte Loy, a senior cheerleader.
The moment the girls walk out will take your breath away.
Those involved say the program will be around for a long time to come.
