Less than one year after prosecutors say he killed his grandparents, a 17-year-old Hawkins County boy has ended his own life.
According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Brandon Fannin hanged himself sometime between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning inside the Knox County Detention Facility.
Investigators say witness statements show Fannin never spoke of suicide. Deputies say he also left a note.
This time last year, Fannin was living with his grandparents at their home in Hawkins County. Investigators arrested him in April, after they say his shot his grandfather and stabbed his grandmother.
Fannin tried to break out of custody last month. Surveillance video caught him running for, then attacking a guard at the Richard L. Bean Juvenile Service Center in Knoxville.
Fannin was transferred out of the juvenile facility shortly after.
