Since the tornado hit in Greenback on Wednesday, neighbors have been helping neighbors get back on their feet. One woman has challenged friends to give up some family heirlooms, to help the cause.
Theresa Ayers's store, Mountain Creek Quilt Shop, has a steady stream of avid quilters.
You may recognize her name. H & R Block featured her earlier this year in a national campaign. Now, Ayers is back in the spotlight again. This time for her good deed.
"I feel like in my life there are things that God gave me, and he didn't give them to me for good. He gave them to me to hold on to until it was the right person came along," said Ayers.
She's collecting quilts and blankets to give out to her neighbors that were devastated by Wednesday's tornado.
"I live on Old Niles Ferry, right behind the boat factory, so these are my neighbors," said Ayers.
Her business sits less than one mile from some of the hardest hit areas.
Her store was untouched. So, she thought, what better way to give back than to give warmth, "They can know that people in our community even though we don't know them, we love them."
Sandra Lange was the first to rush to donate a quilt. "When I got her email I said, "Oh my gosh I need to help," I literally grabbed a quilt off a bed, threw it in the dryer and ran it up here," explained Lange.
Her quilt went to Charlie. 10 News showed you how he lost his entire trailer in the storm.
The women hope many of the hand-made quilts will touch lives and bring someone some calm after the storm.
"I think a quilt to snuggle up with is just a little way to help make someone feel better," explained Lange.
If you would like to donate a quilt, The Mountain Creek Quilt Shop is located at 6588 Highway 411 South, Greenback, TN. You can reach her at: (865)856-0805.
