The Knox County Sheriff's Office is investigating a former county clerk employee after authorities said she stole from county offices.
Officials indicted Rhonda Gail Carter on three counts of officials misconduct and theft. Carter was fired from her job at the clerk's office on Monday after officers served the indictment which investigators said goes back to May.
The indictment states the value of what Carter allegedly took was $500 or less. The indictment was officially handed down last week.
According to Knox County Clerk Foster Arnett, the investigation stemmed from a complaint made to his office and the sheriff's office from a taxpayer who claimed they saw Carter take money.
