International Biscuit Festival
The International Biscuit Festival returns to Knoxville May 27-28 of 2011. The event combines, music, entertainment, shopping and of course, food.
On April 20, 2011, the schedule was announced for the International Biscuit Festival.
The big addition is the Biscuit Benefit Dinner. The dinner will feature Miami-based guest chef Michelle Bernstein and is hosted on May 27 by Blackberry Farm. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank as well as Share our Strength, a national charity working to eliminate hunger.
The festival kicks up again on Saturday, April 28 with the Biscuit Breakfast, presented by Hardees .
The Biscuit Bazaar is an area full of vendors showcasing james, jellies, honey, sorghum, aprons and cookbooks. It will also include artwork. The Biscuit Bazaar will feel two blocks of Clinch Avenue.
Biscuit Boulevard is a tasting area with more than 20 different restaurants and bakers making their signature biscuits. Guests can purchase $5 ticket to allow them to sample up to 5 different creations.
The big event on April 28 is the Biscuit Bake off on Market Square, presented by Lodge Cast Iron. Contestants are selected nationwide and will compete on the Southern Biscuit Stage in 4 different categories: Traditional, Dessert, Most Creative and Kids' Biscuits.
Bake Off applications are available online at BiscuitFest.com and will be accepted until midnight on May 2, 2011. Finalists will be notified and scheduled for the live competition at Market Square.
As it was the first year, music will also be a big part of the International Biscuit Festival. The fun kicks off with a Pre-Heat show on May 26 at The Square Room when YouTube sensation "The Cleverlys " will perform. The event will wrap up on May 28 with The Black Lillies and Tift Merritt at the Bijou Theatre.
Other competitions during the festival include: Biscuit Art, Biscuit Songwriting and Miss & Mr. Biscuit Pageant.
