The City of Oak Ridge is delaying its annual Fourth of July fireworks celebration because of the threat of severe weather.

Fire Chief Darryl Kerley announced Tuesday that the show has been rescheduled for Sunday July 7th, at 10:00 p.m. at A.K. Bissell Park.

"After consulting with the National Weather Service and our fireworks contractor Pyro Shows, I have made the decision to re-schedule the event" says Kerley. "The community investment is too great for the event to not be spectacular. With the prediction for heavy rain Wednesday and Thursday, it could cause problems setting up and loading the shells; therefore, can result in misfires during the program, along with the community not being able to sit outside and enjoy the display" Kerley adds.

In addition to that, lightning within 15 miles of the event would postpone the show anyway, so that everyone could take shelter.

The Community Band will hold their patriotic music concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the pavilion.  The fireworks will be at 10:00 pm.
