Man charged with murdering his elderly uncle

An Anderson County couple is charged in the death of an elderly man who had been missing since Sunday.

According to the Anderson County Sheriff's Department, the body of Sammie J. Adams, 79, of Patt Lane in Claxton, was found hidden under a staircase in his apartment.

His nephew, Norman Lee Follis, Jr, 48, has been charged with First Degree Murder and Felony Theft after the investigation into Adams' death.

Follis' girlfriend, Tammy Sue Chapman, 43, also of Patt Lane, has been charged with Accessory After The Fact and Felony Theft. Chapman was also charged in an unrelated case with Aggravated Burglary for breaking into the home of Follis' father and step-mother.

Additional charges may be filed on both suspects.  Both are being held in the Anderson County Detention Facility. Their bond
has not been set.

Investigators are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding Adams' death and are being assisted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
