Update: Knoxville man turns self in on attempted murder charge

Attempted murder suspect Terry Lewis Vonner turned himself into officers Saturday according to a spokesperson with the Knoxville Police Department.  

Officers immediately charged 44-year-old Vonner with attempted first degree murder and one count of reckless endangerment. 

The charges are tied to a shooting Thursday night. Authorities found Vonner's girlfriend, Althea Pope, in an apartment on Texas Avenue. Police said she had multiple gunshot wounds stemming from an argument with Vonner at her apartment on McPherson Street.  Investigators believed Vonner shot Pope as she ran from him. Her injuries were described as non-life threatening.

Vonner has a lengthy criminal history including aggravated rape, burglary, aggravated arson, theft, and drug possession.

Police are asking the public for help locating a suspect they say shot his girlfriend several times.  Investigators say the Knoxville man is armed and dangerous.

A Knoxville Police Department spokesman says officers found 53-year-old Althea Pope with several gunshot wounds in an apartment on Texas Ave Thursday night.

At Pope's apartment on McPherson Street, police say they found evidence of a fight and several bullet holes in the residence.

According to the spokesman, a fight began there and continued as the suspect fired shots at the victim as she ran away.

They are looking for Pope's boyfriend, 44-year-old Terry Lewis Vonner of Maryville Pike.  

He is facing charges of attempted first degree murder and one count of reckless endangerment.

He has a lengthy criminal history including aggravated rape, burglary, aggravated arson, theft, and drug possession.

The Knoxville Police Department believes a woman fled on foot after being shot on the 3300 block of McPherson Street in Lonsdale on Thursday evening.

When officers responded to the call, the victim was found on Texas Avenue.

An ambulance took the victim to UT Medical Center, and her injuries appear to be non-life threatening. Her name and condition have not been released.

Officials said no suspects are in custody.
