Romney wins Republican presidential primary in Massachusetts

Previous story

Less than half of voters in the Massachusetts GOP primary say former Gov. Mitt Romney's ties to the state mattered somewhat or more to their vote, according to early exit poll results.

Nearly six in 10 voters say the economy was their top issue in Tuesday's primary, with about three in 10 naming the federal budget deficit.

Just under half said they support the tea party movement, one of the lowest shares found in exit polling in any state so far.

Nearly half say the 2006 health care overhaul enacted when Romney was governor went too far. About four in 10 say the law's changes were about right.

Preliminary results from the Massachusetts exit poll include 945 voters. The survey's margin of sampling error is plus or minus 5 percentage points.

Polls close at 8 p.m. Eastern Time
