Update: Second person dies following Claiborne crash

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol say a second person has died following a Saturday morning crash in Claiborne County.

It happened on Highway 25 in Tazewell.

Officials say 19-year-old Kattie Johnson passed away late Saturday night. Her passenger, 22-year-old William West, died several hours before.

Troopers believe Johnson pulled out in front of truck. That driver was not hurt.  Charges are pending.

An early morning crash in Claiborne County Saturday left one person dead and another injured.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says that happened on U.S. Highway 25 in Tazewell. THP says that crash happened at around 3:00 this morning.

According to troopers, a commercial vehicle struck a passenger car as it was turning onto the highway.

The crash killed 22-year old William West who was the passenger in the car. The crash also injured the driver, Katie Johnson.

There is no word yet on her medical condition.

THP says neither driver was drinking. However, troopers say neither West nor Johnson were wearing a seat belt.

According to THP, criminal charges are pending.
