A heavy deluge of rain Monday afternoon has led to reports of flooding in some areas of Knoxville. Emergency crews were busy answering calls of vehicles trapped in flooded areas. There are no reports of injuries.
Flood reports:
Cumberland Avenue near downtown: Was flooded for a brief time. A picture posted to the WBIR Weather Facebook page shows at least one car submerged. That water has since receded.
Cherokee Bluff Rd: Reports have come in that Cherokee Bluff Rd. is closed due to flooding, causing problems for UT students.
Central and Broadway: The M & M Used Furniture Store at the corner of Central and Broadway has flooded. Owners said the water was knee high at one point, and they believe they've lost well over a $1000 in merchandise.
Cherry St and Nichols Road: At least one woman had to be rescued from her car after driving into the high water.
Powell area: Water nearly surrounded a house on Dante Rd.
Power outages:
As of 7:25 p.m., KUB says 1,673 customers are currently without power, mostly in North Knoxville. That's down from a peak of 2,243.
