Running back Marlin Lane rushed for two touchdowns and 106 yards on nine carries to give the Orange a narrow 17-14 victory over the White team Saturday in Tennessee's annual spring game.
Tennessee coach Derek Dooley wanted Saturday's scrimmage to be competitive with the majority of the first-team offense and defense on separate squads and that's what the third-year coach got.
The White team's final drive stalled after quarterback Tyler Bray's pass intended for wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers sailed out of bounds, giving the Orange team a 17-14 victory.
Bray played the entire game and finished 14-of-26 for 157 yards and a touchdown. Rogers had five receptions for a game-high 74 yards.
Marlin put the Orange up 14-7 at halftime with a 39-yard scoring run to end the second quarter.
