A Cocke County election commissioner accused of striking and killing a woman with his truck while under the influence appeared in court Tuesday.

Investigators say Commissioner Dan Ford hit 21-year-old Katelin Richardson and another woman on Highway 73 near Newport last July.

Tuesday Ford appeared in court for a motions hearing. His defense attorney argued to remove the ignition interlock from Ford's truck as well as the GPS bracelet that monitors his alcohol intake.

The state agreed to remove only the ignition interlock, saying it was redundant to the ankle bracelet.

He is charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication, vehicular homicide by recklessness and DUI.

Ford is set to go to trial in October.
