The Tennessee Department of Transportation has established a new detour for wide load vehicles to get around the closed portion of I-75.

The interstate is completely shut down in Campbell County because of a large and expanding landslide that has collapsed part of the roadway.

To help alleviate some of the extra traffic in the local communities along the two primary detour routes, TDOT and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) worked together to come up with an alternate detour:

See map of detour

I-75 Southbound wide loads: Take Exit 62 (Mt. Vernon) in Kentucky and follow U.S. 25 to State Route 461 to State Route 80 to State Route 914 (Bypass) to U.S. 27 into Tennessee and follow SR 63 back to I-75 at Exit 141 (Oneida/Huntsville).

In addition to the closure of I-75 South, only one lane of I-75 North is open between milemarkers 141-144, just north of the Oneida/Huntsville exit.

In addition to the closure of I-75 South, only one lane of I-75 North is open between milemarkers 141-144, just north of the Oneida/Huntsville exit.

TDOT hopes to reopen both northbound lanes and one southbound lane by May 21.

The previously released detours for passenger vehicles are as follows:

Detour Route for I-75 Southbound: Take Exit 160 in Jellico, Tenn., follow U.S. 25W to LaFollette and back onto I-75 South at Exit 134 in Caryville. http://g.co/maps/j4ejz

Detour route for I-40 destinations east of Dandridge, Tenn.: Take Exit 29 at Corbin, Ky., follow U.S. 25E to Morristown, Tenn., take I-81 South to its junction with I-40. http://g.co/maps/egnr2

However, U.S. 25E is reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction at the Kentucky-Tennessee border due to pavement repairs inside the Cumberland Gap Tunnel.
