Despite a state Supreme Court decision, a special judge is once again asking for new trials in the double rape and murder cases of a Knox County couple.

Channon Christian and Chris Newsom were tortured and murdered five years ago.

Last month, the state's highest court rejected Judge Jon Kerry Blackwood's decision to grant retrials to three defendants already convicted and sentenced for the deaths of the young couple.

But now, according to court documents, Judge Blackwood filed another motion last week to once again order new trials.

In the meantime, Assistant District Attorney General Leland Price is now asking Judge Blackwood to recuse himself from the case, accusing the special judge of judicial misconduct.

This all comes after former Judge Richard Baumgartner resigned in disgrace and still faces federal charges tied to his abuse of prescription drugs during the Christian-Newsom trials.
