The latest in mammography technology is coming to Jefferson County.

Tennova Healthcare and Jefferson Memorial Hospital now have their first digital mammography unit.

It produces images in a digital format that is much clearer than traditional mammography. This allows them to be sent straight to the radiologist instead of waiting for the film to develop.

It's also a faster process overall, cutting down time spent in the women's imaging department.

"This new technology will greatly benefit the women of Jefferson County. It will help to diagnose breast cancer earlier and also help with survival rates for women with breast cancer," said Amy Potter, mammographer.

The community is invited to attend a free seminar later this month where they can learn about the benefits of digital mammography.
