Blount County commissioners have approved a new county budget, and although the school system is set to receive millions of dollars in funding, it's not getting as much as it hoped for.
At a meeting Thursday, the full commission approved a resolution giving the schools just over $80 million. That's $4 million shy of what they asked for, and it's a move not everyone supports.
"You can't spend money you don't have. I understand that, but I also understand that these children will not get a second chance on their education. And Blount County is a wealthy county. We should be taking care of our kids," said Blount County resident Dodd Crowe.
The Blount County Board of Education previously told 10 News that part of a potential budget shortfall could be covered by the system's fund balance.
