About 15 months since a massive fire damaged the Kingston United Methodist Church, members can start to, in their words, "come home."

"It was a very traumatic experience, and all of us grieved for a while," said 40-plus year member Anne Horner.

Mourning over these grounds, the April 30, 2011 fire tested the faith of the 200-member congregation.

"We were in a time of flux and, as it happened, we were meeting in the ministry center. Worship there, and slowly, but surely, we come back from the fire," said Kingston UMC youth director Will Purushotham.

On Sunday, people piled into the new sanctuary, complete with new floors, pews, organ and more.

"Even the day of the fire, some people said at that moment we will rebuild. It'll be a new chapter," Purushotham added.

However, you can still see signs of the past.

"There's our old bell ringing," Horner said in the middle of the interview. "You know the saying 'out with the old, in with the new?' keep the old, and add the new."

As the first of many services in this rebuilt church wrapped up, Horner says she looks forward to returning to the place she's called a home away from home... again.

"Watching the looks on their faces was just awe-inspiring," Horner smiled.

The Methodist church has been a part of the community since the 1800's, and has been through two prior fires before 2011.
