One year ago Sunday, an EF-1 tornado touched down in Anderson County.

The tornado, which was 80 yards wide, touched down in Claxton just east of the Bull Run Steam Plant, before traveling another mile-and-a-half.  According to the National Weather Service, the tornado had winds of up to 90 miles per hour.

No one was hurt in the storm that left power lines down and branches scattered throughout streets and yards.

Claxton resident Randy Johnson remembers the storm well.  He said he and his family were in the basement of their Crest Drive home when the storm hit.

"Everything was black, no electricity, no nothing," he said.

Johnson said the storm, although violent, went by his neighborhood quickly.  He told 10News after it subsided, residents across the neighborhood went from house to house to do safety checks.

"My daughter and my wife's sister was hollering, 'Oh my God, there's a tree on the house,'" Johnson said.

They found a 100-foot-tall poplar on their neighbor's house.  Luckily, the family who lived there was away on vacation.

No injuries or deaths occurred as a result of the storm.
