Say that ten times fast... Sheesh.
A few months ago someone told me there was a cat at the Knoxville Botanical Garden. Yeah, yeah a cat in the garden.. I have those fellas visit my mint all the time. It wasn't until I saw him become a little bit of a Facebook sensation that I decided to investigate.
So Kitty Roy has lived over at the botanical garden for a while, but now that the grounds manager has opened his door Kitty Roy is living large. Mathew McMillian is actually teaching the ten-year-old cat some new tricks. Although he says the Administrative folks enjoy dressing him up in "emasculating outfits." Ha, I think he looked rather handsome in his flowery bonnet. Although I do enjoy the sophistication of the bowtie.
I was lucky enough on the day of shooting that Kitty Roy was napping when I arrived, making it easier to interview Mathew before the Kitty Diva came downstairs. Which he had to be picked up and carried down the stairs. I can't make this stuff up people. Now, Kitty Roy is pretty friendly and loves a good visit. He is actually on the treasure hunt that the kids can complete while they are visiting.
Kitty Roy is also a hit when it comes to weddings. He likes to meander through the background of wedding pictures and Mathew says "he's in a lot of wedding soundtracks."
Now don't think he is too spoiled, he still has to eat at another building so that if the groundskeepers are not feline friendly (read allergies) then Kitty Roy will still know what is going on.
He may not be as famous as Morris or Garfield the Cat, but Kitty Roy is headed off on a celebrity of his own. Actually he has a pretty broad fanbase on social media.
To see Kitty Roy and his new little friend Sage you can visit the Knoxville Botanical Gardens.
