The Knox County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who was shot and killed by deputies on Saturday.

Peter Biljak, 61, of 8512 Nubbin Ridge Road, was killed when he pointed a shotgun at Deputies Michael Bartleson and Orlando Dixson.

The deputies came to Biljak's home after a 911 call from Mary Norris, who said that Biljak texted her that he was burning her possessions.  She told officers that Biljak had an alcohol and drug problem and was suicidal.

As the deputies approached the house, the say they identified themselves several times.  Biljak came to the door with a shotgun, and refused when the deputies ordered him to put it down.  He was shot when the deputies say he pointed the gun at Officer Dixson.

According to KCSO, Biljak has been arrested twice for DUI, on October 12, 2011 and January 9, 2012.

Officer Bartleson has been with the Sheriff's Office since November 1999 and was named Officer of the Month in 2008. Officer Dixson was hired in July 2010.  Both deputies are on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
