A new ride is coming to Pigeon Forge, but you won't find this one on the Parkway.

Sevier County's next roller coaster will wind its way through the wilderness off Wears Valley Road. It will be known as the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster.

Alpine coasters use individual cars that slide down a mountain on a smaller track than traditional coasters.

The Pigeon Forge Planning Commission approved a site plan for the coaster Tuesday.

It'll be about a mile long with a 300 foot drop and a speed of up to 25 miles an hour.

A couple from Germany bought the land and plans to build the ride.

The surveyor says they hope to have it running by next spring.
