Sheriff Bud McCoig has released the name of the man who drowned in Cherokee Lake in Jefferson County Monday evening.
The sheriff said the victim was Justin Wade Banks, 20, of Dandridge. He said it appeared to be an accidental drowning.
A 19-year-old man died while swimming in Cherokee Lake Tuesday evening around 7:30 p.m., according to the Jefferson County Rescue Squad.
Officials say the teen was in a cove swimming with some friends. They were apparently swinging on rope into water.
They say the body was recovered about 40 minutes after the teen went underwater.
The water was 14 feet deep.
The rescue squad is unable to release the teen's name at this time.
