Dollywood's Splash Country was full of visitors Thursday as temperatures hit 100 degrees in East Tennessee.
Water attractions and 100-degree temperatures seem perfect together. That is not always the case, however.
You may wonder why this could be the best time to visit Dollywood's Splash Country.
Believe it or not, the water park notices a small dip in visitors when the heat rises above 100 degrees.
Park officials believe some park goers choose to stay home, escaping the historic heat.
That is good news for visitors who don't mind the type weather East Tennesseans will witness this weekend.
"The folks who do come to the park enjoy themselves because there is a lot of opportunity to cool off and there is a lot of capacity. Which means, there are a lot of places to sit," said Dollywood's Splash Country spokesperson Pete Owens.
Overall, Splash Country's attendance is up 12% this year compared to Summer 2011. Dollywood is noticing a 25% increase.
