We're learning more about the death of a Bradley County child and the hospitalization of his brother.
According to the Bradley County Sheriff's Office, the boys' mother, Tasha Moses, called 911 Thursday afternoon to report a possible drowning at a home in Cleveland.
3-year-old River Bates died. His 5-year-old brother Leland is being treated at a children's hospital.
But now, investigators say there was no water involved. There's no bond or pool at the home where the mother said the drowning took place.
The boys' grandfather says they were playing on a slip-and-slide and became overheated. He says River's body temperature reached triple digits.
Deputies say the investigation is far from over. They say they're hoping to learn more from autopsy results.
Previous story
A child is dead and his sibling is in critical condition in what's turned into a criminal investigation in Bradley County.
It happened Thursday afternoon in Cleveland, and authorities are saying very little about the circumstances.
Police say the 3-year-old and 5-year-old's mother brought them to their grandfather's home, then called for help.
The 3-year-old died at the hospital. The 5-year-old is in critical condition, and although police were initially called about a possible drowning, officers say the case is not water related.
"At the house where it happened, there is no pond, no pool. Investigators right now are looking at different possibilities as to what may have happened," said Bob Gault from the Bradley County Sheriff's Office.
At this point, no one is charged in this case, and police are not ready to release any names.
