Firefighters say they're gaining control of several fires that sparked in an East Tennessee forest.

Firefighters have been battling three fires at Cherokee National Forest in Polk County since last week.

Monday, a park spokeswoman says 70 firefighters continue to patrol the fires in the extreme heat.

Hundreds of acres have gone up in flames since the fires began last Monday.

Firefighters have said the triple-digit temperatures and dry conditions helped fuel the flames.
