Volkswagen is marking its best U.S. sales year since 1973, and that's in-part thanks to the redesigned Passat, made here in Tennessee.

The Passat is made at the German automakers' Chattanooga plant. It currently employes 3,500 Tennesseans.

In addition to the Passat, Volkswagen's strong sales are also led by a revamped Beetle, and the high-volume Jetta, according to company officials.

VW's sales overall in the U.S. rose more than 34 percent in June over the same period last year.
