Four years ago, Steve Butcher got the opportunity of a lifetime- to be a gymnastics judge at the Beijing Olympics.
That dream only lasted a day.
He had to come back to the States, because his mom was in the hospital.
"I only got to judge the preliminary competition, and when I left Beijing I had a feeling, 'Wow, this may hurt my career.'"
Two months after Beijing, Butcher got a call.
"After I came back from Beijing, of course you think what if this is my last games? Fortunately I get to return."
Butcher was selected to judge the London Games, making him one of the top seven judges in the world.
"Everyone asked how does a Knoxville guy reaches the top of his game as far as being a gymnastics judge, and I've been lucky. Also I've worked very hard."
