Athletes battled the heat Saturday during the AYSO National Championship Soccer Tournament.
Players have been competing on several fields around Knoxville and facing opponents from all over the country. But, the biggest opponent might have been the heat.
Since the tournament started, teams have been playing in hot and muggy conditions with temperatures consistently in the 90s. Staying cool has been the major priority for many.
"It's been rough," said Brad Chambers, the coach for the Scott County Sparks. "One of the parents brought a sprayer. We've got cool rags."
Chambers says it's been a major challenge. He says he's trying to keep his players hydrated and in the shade under a tent when they're not on the field.
The AYSO finals are Sunday at Regal Soccer Stadium on UT's campus.
