A Loudon County organization dedicated to helping pets says it's struggling to pay for pet food.

Four Paws Food Pantry provides pet food for families that cannot afford it. They spend upwards of $1,500 on pet food each month.

Over the past few months, they've struggled to raise enough money to cover their pet food costs. But those with Four Paws say it's a necessary expense to keep pets with their families.

"A pet provides a lot of emotional support. They love you no matter if you're unemployed or you're sick or no matter what, and to have to give that pet up and have to give that love up is just, well for some people I think it could be the last straw," said Linda Walter.

Four Paws allows people to pick up a bag of pet food each month.
