Six Mile Missionary Baptist Church in Maryville celebrated 200 years as  congregation on Sunday.

The church began as a simple log cabin in 1812. Since then, the congregation has rebuilt it four times. They currently worship in a building built 46-years-ago on Montvale Road.

As the congregation's second longest living member Dortha Yearout can testify their mission never changed.

"That's the main purpose of this life. To be prepared to go," says Yearout.

She says they pride themselves on being a friendly and welcoming congregation.

Pastor Charles Murrell says their heavy reliance on scripture helps the church endure.

"Book by book, phrase by phrase. It's right there. And so they have majored on that. And they emphasize that that preaching ministry is very vital." says Murrell. "I guess that's the bottom line is the proclaiming of the gospel of Christ."
