KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A federal appeals court has revived a lawsuit by a Seventh Day Adventist who claims she was unfairly fired by the University of Tennessee at Knoxville because she refused to work on her Sabbath.
The ruling from a panel of judges for the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was issued Tuesday in Cincinnati in favor of Kimberly Crider. The opinion says a lower court incorrectly dismissed the case when it should have explored whether UT could have accommodated Crider's religious beliefs without undue hardship for the university.
After she was hired, Crider asked not to work between sundown Friday and sundown Saturday. UT dismissed her because it said she needed to be available then as an emergency contact for the Programs Abroad Office.
