A Knox County Kindergarten teacher is accused of inflating her students' grades.

Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre is seeking to revoke Judith Childress' tenure. The item is scheduled to be voted on at the Board of Education's Wednesday meeting.

In a letter to Childress, a teacher at Lonsdale Elementary, McIntyre describes ways in which he says the teacher sought to misrepresent her students' performance during assessment testing in May, 2012

"When the evaluator began testing, the students shared that they had been read the book provided. You had been informed that this material was not to be shared with your students in advance of the assessment," McIntyre wrote.

The evaluator then administered a Kindergarten Literacy Assessment to 23 students using a lower level book, according to the letter.

"Many students were unable to read at even the lowest testing level, much less on grade level," McIntyre wrote.

He also says Childress entered inflated test scores when she entered them into the county's database to represent more students reading at grade level.

"This is a falsification of testing data, and is a grave disservice to the students entrusted to your care, as they would have been identified as needing assistance," McIntyre wrote. "I find these instances of insubordination and unprofessional conduct, separately and in the aggregate, to be just cause for your termination."

The Board of Education is scheduled to discuss the issue at their Monday work session, with a vote possible on Wednesday.
