Thomas Wayne "Cotton" Morgan worked at the Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex for 28 years.
WARTBURG, Tenn. (AP) -- A memorial marker honoring a correctional officer killed in the line of duty will be dedicated Wednesday outside the Morgan County Correctional Complex.
Wayne "Cotton" Morgan was shot seven years ago while escorting an inmate from the Roane County Courthouse. The inmate's wife, Jennifer Hyatte, killed him during an escape plot and was sentenced to life in prison.
Employees at the complex collected funds to purchase the memorial. Morgan was a 28-year employee of the Department of Correction and two years away from retirement when he was killed.
Hyatte's husband, George, also was sentenced to life in prison for his role in Morgan's death. He was a career criminal.
