With the Primary Election Day just two days away, East Tennesseans got to know some of their elected officials at an event Tuesday.

More than 30 politicians were on hand to mingle with people at the first ever Pigs and Politics Barbecue.

The event was a chance for Blount County residents to get more acquainted with politicians on a state and local level, with no speeches allowed.

Those in attendance say the relaxed atmosphere was helpful.

"Well, I like it. Especially when it's in an informal setting where we can go and there's three or four different politicians and you can get not only one of 'em's ideas, but you can get the ideas of three or four of 'em and maybe they've got some diversification within their thoughts," said attendee Ben Curtis.

The primary election is this Thursday, August 2. The polls open at 8 a.m.

We'll have those results on Channel 10 and wbir.com.
