Alcoa has approved a half-cent sales tax increase to fund a new high school.
The final vote count was 1,018 votes for the increase, 267 votes against.
The money generated from the tax increase will go toward building a new $29 million high school.
Director of Alcoa City Schools, Dr. Brian Bell, says crews could potentially break ground on the new school by November of this year. If all goes according to plan, the school is set to open in January 2015.
