Some heavy rain Friday didn't stop some Knoxville middle schoolers from having a little fun at school before classes begin.

The South Doyle Middle School PTSA hosted a Back to School Bash.

Students were encouraged to drop by and reunite with friends, meet their new teachers and look over their schedules.

They were also able to test their throwing skills at a dunking booth.

The school's principal says the bash serves many purposes.

"It lets them meet their teachers in a way that's less formal than that first day of school. So, greeting friends, we take care of that. Familiarizing themselves with the campus, we take care of that," said Principal Beth Blevins.

Moe's Southwest Grille catered the event.

Knox County students return to class for a half day on Tuesday.
