Dogs and their owners had a night on the town, coming out for the First Annual Dog-Friendly Gala at the Crowne Plaza in Downtown Knoxville Saturday night.

The event, hosted by PetSafe, raised money for canine cancer research. One in three dogs gets cancer during their lifetimes and only half of these survive.

Guests and their dogs enjoyed a cocktail hour together. When dinner rolled around, the four-legged guests went outside to play together and get one-on-one attention from their personal handlers.

The event also featured both silent and live auctions, and WBIR Meteorologist Mike Witcher was its master of ceremonies.  Proceeds from the event will go towards funding cancer research through the Morris Animal Foundation and the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine.
